UGA Student Guide

The University of Georgia is one of the oldest public universities in the country and has a campus with beauty that is difficult to find elsewhere. However, if you are moving to Athens for school, you need to learn about what the surrounding city has to offer as well! From luxury UGA student apartments to delicious restaurants, Athens has something for everyone.

Once you commit to attending the University of Georgia, you will need to decide where you want to live. While some may opt for living in dorms, there are much more advantages to living in off-campus student housing near UGA. Below is a quick description of the different areas in town you can choose from.

Five Points

Five Points is perhaps the most student-oriented district in Athens. It boasts businesses that are tailored to the student lifestyle including coffee shops, some of the best luxury apartments Athens, GA, has to offer and plenty of tasty restaurants.

Downtown Athens lies in between UGA campus and a residential area. It is a location well known for its nightlife, bars, restaurants, live music venues, apartments and shops. If you are looking for somewhere to go on a Saturday night, Downtown should be your first choice.

This area is a bit farther away from the student atmosphere but it does have a few highlights that make it a necessary location to visit. Both Trail Creek Park and North Oconee River Greenway are beautiful areas to enjoy when students need a bit of fresh air.

Normaltown & Prince Avenue

This region is in northwest Athens and has few students. However, a trip to this area is worth it, if only for a meal at The Grit.

Athens Eateries

Restaurants are integral elements of the college experience. Whether you need to grab a quick bite to avoid the time-consuming task of cooking or you want to find a go-to spot with your friends, Athens has a variety of options to please all palates.

Mama’s Boy

Mama’s Boy is known for its delicious southern food served for breakfast and lunch. Diners will also be pleased to learn that vegan and gluten free menu items are also provided.

The Grit

Whether you are a vegetarian or you are looking for healthier food options, The Grit offers a wide range of meatless menu items that are also delicious. Make sure that you try their sweet potato fries; they have the best in town!
